MRC Maribor is hosting an exhibition about the Nazi prisoner of war camp Stalag XVIII D at the Russian House in Belgrade, entitled “In the Shadow of the Forgotten” by Dr. Daniel Siter in collaboration with the University Alma Mater Europaea. The exhibition, which will be on display in the lobby of the Russian House Belgrade until mid-May, was well attended at its opening. The opening was attended by numerous representatives of the Russian House Belgrade, representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Serbia and others, including young people and children. The exhibition was opened by the Secretary General of the MRC Maribor Iza Verdel.
The former “Russian camp” in its authentic and preserved historical form today plays a key role in the scientific research, pedagogical, educational and non-publicistic activities of the International Research Center of the Second World War Maribor and the Museum of the Nazi Camp Stalag XVIII D, as well as in conveying historical truth to younger generations. We regularly prepare and open historical exhibitions with expert guidance through the exhibition content. We are also active in organizing international scientific conferences, symposia and high-profile round tables. The main audience groups are the younger generations, to whom we pay the most attention. Above all, our concern for the transmission of historical truth and memory and the education of young people is of key importance.
The exhibition is a symbolic tribute to all survivors and deceased victims of violence who suffered from Nazi genocidal and ethnocidal terror during World War II. It is not only a tribute to the past, but also a dedication to the present. May it serve to transmit historical knowledge, truth, memory and science to younger generations. May it be an initiative for new research, new discoveries and new discoveries.
The exhibition moved from Niš to Belgrade, after Belgrade it is being moved to Novi Sad, and later to Jasenovac/Gradino (Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina).
