The exhibition “In the Shadow of the Neglected” is hosted by the Archives of Vojvodina in Novi Sad
We have officially opened the exhibition “In the Shadow of the Neglected – Stalag XVIII D: The Nazi Grave of Soviet Prisoners of War in Maribor (1941–1942)” at the Archives of Vojvodina, which, through documentary and archival material, testifies in a moving way to the suffering of Soviet prisoners of war in one of the Nazi camps on the territory of today’s Slovenia.

The exhibition was prepared by the International Research Center for the Second World War in Maribor in cooperation with the Alma Mater Europaea University. The author of the exhibition is Dr. Daniel Siter. The exhibition, which is based on archival material, photographs, documents and the results of many years of research, shows the fate of thousands of Soviet soldiers who lost their lives in the Stalag XVIII D camp due to hunger, disease, forced labor and inhuman living conditions.

The audience was addressed with an introductory speech by Severina Miletić, archivist and archivist at the Archives of Vojvodina, who emphasized that the exhibition represents more than just a display of historical facts – it is a memory of people whose names and fates have remained in the shadow of history for decades, and a reminder that crimes born of hatred and deprivation of human dignity must never be forgotten.

The exhibition was officially opened by Iza Verdel, Secretary General of the International Research Center for the Second World War in Maribor, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in researching, preserving and presenting historical truth and promoting a culture of remembrance for the victims of the Second World War.

With the opening of this exhibition, the Archives of Vojvodina continues its mission of preserving historical heritage and promoting a culture of remembrance, and provides a space for projects that contribute to scientific research, international cooperation and understanding of the tragic sides of world history.

The exhibition will be available to visitors at the Archives of Vojvodina until mid-July.
