We have opened a philatelic exhibition of all issues of postage stamps of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945, which, through philately, testify to one of the most difficult periods in European and world history. The owner of the collection of exhibited stamps is Zmago Jelinčič Plemeniti. The exhibition was prepared by the Slovenian Philatelic Academy in cooperation with the International Research Center of World War II Maribor.
The exhibition takes place in the year when we mark the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Nazi prisoner-of-war camp Stalag XVIII D in Maribor. It is an important historical reminder of the suffering of Soviet prisoners of war and the preservation of the memory of the victims of World War II.
The exhibited stamps are not just a collector’s item, but a historical document that reflects wartime, resistance, sacrifices and hope in a special way. The exhibition is a tribute to all who suffered in the war and a call to reflect on the importance of peace and respect for human dignity.
