Sašo Gačnik “Svarogov” kicks off international tour “For the sake of life on Earth” with unforgettable concert in former Nazi prisoner of war camp STALAG XVIII D
Internationally renowned artist (pianist, composer, poet) Sašo Gačnik “Svarogov” kicked off his tour “For the sake of life on Earth” with an exclusive, phenomenal premiere concert in former Nazi prisoner of war camp STALAG XVIII D in Maribor.
With the event, the artist wanted to encourage dialogue, understanding and friendship between nations, and highlight the importance of peace, humanity and respect for historical memory.
The artist chose such a location, among other things, because this place is connected to a dark chapter in his family’s past. Namely, his great-grandfather, a conscientious Slovene, patriot and partisan, was also imprisoned in this camp, who was later sent by the occupier to the German concentration camp Dachau.
The concert was attended by numerous Slovenian politicians from coalition and opposition parties, well-known Slovenians, and a Russian delegation with RF Ambassador Timur Ejvazov.
The concert also featured Violeta Tomić, known as one of the best Slovenian interpreters of poetry, who superbly recited some of Gačnik’s works.
Sašo Gačnik’s concert offered visitors an experience that went beyond music. The audience listened to both songs in Slovenian and Russian as well as literary interpretations, creating an emotionally charged evening of art, memory, and hope.
The event honored the victims of totalitarianism, highlighted the importance of preserving historical facts, and emphasized the necessity of intercultural dialogue and friendship between nations.
Sašo Gačnik “Svarogov”: “Culture is one of the most powerful tools for co-creating the reality of a social system. With the help of culture, it is possible to knock on people’s hearts and stimulate the functioning of reason. With the project “For the sake of life on Earth”, I want to contribute my little bit to the formation of a more beautiful and just world, in which there is no room for fascist ideologies. I firmly believe in the necessity of coexistence or cooperation in a multipolar world order, since different cultures enrich the human species. However, to achieve such a goal, it is necessary to start cultivating dialogue and mutual respect both between individuals and between different nations. Absolute Love with big ears is the only key to the solution.”
The purpose of the project is international cultural activism for friendship between all nations and the preservation of historical facts, since each of the forgotten horrors of the past, which are quickly fading into oblivion under the influence of irresponsible policies, brings us closer to a rerun of the darkest scenarios.
On behalf of all Slovenians who are not in favor of militarization and wars, “Svarogov” under the slogan “FOR THE SAKE OF LIFE ON EARTH”, as at all its concerts in Russia, also in Maribor performs songs in Slovenian and Russian.
The Russian people in particular have suffered a tragedy of unimaginable proportions in the past, and therefore have every moral right to protect their security interests. It is the duty of world politics to ensure this, and the duty of all people of the world to create mutual respect and friendly relations, and to develop cultural and business cooperation on the basis of equality!
There must be no place anywhere in the world for fascism, Nazism, or any other forms of tyranny.
The event was supported by all who want reason to prevail in relations between Slovenia and Russia.
The next concert will be this Friday, November 28, at the Moscow Victory Museum. Gachnik’s initiative was supported by Art Garfunkel Jr. (USA), Vadim Samoylov – Agatha Christie (Russia), Emmanuel Forest (France) and many other star artists from around the world; some of them will join him on stage at Friday’s concert in Moscow.

“When life sets its limits for you,
when the sunlight no longer warms you,
go there for a moment to a ruined place,
you will be grateful again when you return.”
